I had an idea
Posted On 11/07/2008 11:22:27 by Shaelyn

someone should totally run with this idea, because I will never have the money to do it.  (and hey, if they want to send some money my way for having this idea, freaking awesome.)

I want to make an Otaku Lounge.

a REAL Otaku Lounge.

as in...some place for gamers and anime nerds to hang out - out of their houses/school/work.

I'd get a partnership with some bubble tea joint like Boba Latte or something...and run it like Barnes & Nobles + Starbucks.

I'd have an area set up with couches n shit, pillows on a rug, bean bags, whatever, for just lounging.  ...and a couple of large round booths for eating, and a handful of smaller tables.  stuff to plug in laptops in both these areas.

an area in the back with gaming consoles and tvs (of course, only employees would have access to the gaming consoles - and we'd have a limited supply of games, all multi-player...but people would be more than welcome to bring their own games and memory cards and whatnot.)

and there would be a couple of small movie theaters/stages in the back too, running anime most of the time...and one of the stages could be used for kids to practice cosplaying skits or whatnot, or to have performances.

and we'd hold gaming tournaments and cosplay nights (those who cosplay these nights get...something half price - would there be an admission fee?  if so, half-price admission - they may have to bring a picture of what they're cosplaying as.)  ...and anime marathons (I could sooooo see running a Death Note marathon on Halloween - happy birthday L!)

so on and so forth.

would be a great place for nerds to meet other nerds, for people that wouldn't normally go OUTDOORS to find a place to do so.

oh and uh...if we set up next to some gaming store or comic store or movie store that sold anime...WIN.

y'know...maybe I should talk to the owner of Boba Latte about this ~laughs~

EDIT:  I've decided, no admission fee.  the primary thing about this is for anime/gamer nerds to hang out, and a lot of them are HS/college students...which are generally on a ramen diet for a reason.  so if they want to come in and chill on the pillows/couches, it's all good.  but, if they want internet, they'd have to purchase something first.  they'd have to buy a pass to play games, and one to watch anime...and we'd offer a package deal on it all too I'm sure - one-day or a membership deal for those that came in all the time.

hmmmm...

wow. talk about making a business. great idea, but i believe only 2/3 of the world isnt really an anime/manga/gaming-fanatic (Otaku). such great ideas though, but sound like it'll cost alot to make it stand. and also you need workers, and a decent amount of payment. if it must work, i suggest a small area to start in, so you can get those limited amounts of people, and build up from there. if its too big, and not famous, not only people wont enter, but the source to make the business last will diminish. about the starting money, well, im p00r. im pretty much in debt but really hoping our new president Obama turns things around.

maybe too much things for a comment huh?

~chuckles~

yeah, it's an awesome idea...I doubt it'll ever happen though.  I know *I* don't have the funds to pull it off.  I did think some of the various nerdy hangouts (bubble tea places, movie and gaming stores) would be good places to put fliers...and A-Kon or other anime conventions would be one helluva place to advertise too.

but yeah I know, if I were to manage the whole, I'd need employees to make the food/drink and/or serve people, manage the gaming area, and manage the theater area.

y'know...we'd totally need a little store too...to sell the random crap that anime nerds love - the plush dolls and the posters/wall scrolls and the cellphone charms, the props for cosplay, training swords, etc.

but yeah...it would start small, probably not nearly as big as it is outlined here.  it'd probably start off as a bubble tea joint with a large comfy area and a gaming/anime area with just a few tvs...and after some money is made, I could move into an abandoned movie theater and renovate the place - keep a couple of theaters up as mentioned, add a stage to one of them, and...etc. etc. etc.

it's a shame.  I'm very muchly a visionary - I have a lot of awesome ideas like this (I just dont bother to write most of them down.)  ...but I don't have the means to do them.

the other thing I want to do is a costume shop.  WOULD KILL.  ...but that wouldn't make much money, except near Halloween and *maybe* the local anime convention, or other conventions if I go online...but I don't think it'd be enough, and I'd have a lot more to study to make the clothes - I'd be too much of a damn perfectionist for it to work.

and of course, this is all theoretically and not going to happen on my end T.T
